ICAI Calculator Policy

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) permits candidates to use **ordinary 12-digit pocket calculators** with up to 6 functions, 12 digits, and two memories in all examinations. Scientific calculators, programmable calculators, or calculators with print options are strictly prohibited.

Essential Calculator Keys

  • GT (Grand Total): Accumulates the results of all previous calculations since AC was pressed. Crucial for annuity sum values.
  • M+ / M- (Memory Plus/Minus): Adds or subtracts the current display number to/from the memory storage.
  • MRC (Memory Recall): Press once to recall memory value; press twice to clear memory.

Pro Tips for Paper 3

  • Brand Selection: Standardize on **Casio MJ-12D/120D** or **Citizen CT-512**. They are highly durable and have silent keys.
  • Practice regularly: Never change your calculator model in the last 30 days before exams. Muscle memory is vital!
  • Keep a backup: Always carry a backup calculator of the exact same model to the examination hall.
